[Editorial] Welcome to the Age of Mobile AI – Samsung Global Newsroom

Developing the Galaxy S24 series has been the most rewarding period of my career. As an engineer, I have seen many examples of incredible innovations, but AI is the most transformative technology of this century. Few engineers get the chance to be involved in something with such seismic potential. This brings a big change not only for Samsung and the mobile industry, but for all mankind.

When integrated into phones, AI is, simply put, a revolution. It’s a new era of mobile experiences and Samsung Galaxy has a major role to play in it. Mobile devices will become the primary access point for AI, and Samsung Galaxy — with our broad and comprehensive product portfolio, heritage of innovation and open collaboration philosophy — is well-positioned to accelerate its global expansion. We will make mobile AI easier to access and unlock new possibilities for everyone.

Opening up new possibilities

As we embark on groundbreaking experiments in mobile AI, we’ve thought a lot about how this new and exciting technology can improve our lives and influence society’s next steps. Implemented with care and consideration, Galaxy AI¹ Helps people communicate across borders, complete daily tasks easily and more.

Since the launch of the Galaxy S24 series, we’ve had great feedback on how people use Galaxy AI features in their daily lives. One of the most welcome AI features is Circle to Search.² With Google, an incredible new tool for intuitive discovery. Our communication tools, such as live translation, to overcome language barriers;³ Chat Assist⁴ And the translator has captured the imagination of many. People also love PhotoAssist, our tool for creativity powered by our ProVisual engine.

Again, we’re just getting started. When developing the Galaxy S24 series, we had many ideas and concepts that we wanted to bring to life. Galaxy users will be able to enjoy more Galaxy AI features that build on these ideas and concepts over time as Samsung continues to enhance and enhance the mobile AI experience.⁵

Additionally, we are already planning the next steps for Galaxy AI beyond smartphones – optimizing it for different categories of devices across different services. In the near future, select Galaxy wearables will use AI to improve digital health and open a new era of expansive, intelligent health experiences. Samsung will continue to enrich and enhance Galaxy AI experiences across all categories by collaborating with industry-leading AI partners.

Over the past year, we’ve often asked ourselves what customers want or need and what they could achieve with a little help. These questions inspired the Galaxy S24 series, our first AI phone that invites users to imagine how AI can change their lives. It’s the phone of the future — setting the standard for mobile AI and defining this emerging category of AI phones.

Of course, there are challenges and responsibilities to consider. AI models in training are still elusive, and intellectual property rights are still debated. It is critical that companies collaborate to openly define AI experiences, so that consumers can enjoy their new capabilities with confidence and trust.

Elevating security and privacy standards is also important in this new era of data-driven mobile experiences. That’s one of the reasons we’ve taken a hybrid approach that combines on-device and cloud-based AI. In addition to ensuring seamless usage, it also lets users restrict certain features to work entirely on the device, giving them more control over what they do with their data. We are committed to enhancing Galaxy device security and privacy by providing consumers with transparency and choice.

In this new era of mobile AI, it’s no longer a question of what any phone can do, but what people can achieve with the right tools. The Galaxy S24 series provides some of these tools and I can’t wait to see what you do with them. It is you who decides what is possible, useful and meaningful.
