Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Oraloglu stated that they aim to encourage local and national production through the advocacy program to support fifth generation (5G) mobile communications infrastructure development projects. “With this project, for the first time in Turkey, work will be done to develop local and national products in cooperation with the manufacturer, the operator who can use the product and the supporting institution.” He said.

Oraloglu pointed out that countries cannot compete in the globalized world without having a sound communications infrastructure, and explained that increasing the productivity of digital technologies has become one of the important driving forces for economic growth.

Uraloglu stated that, as the ministry, they are working to support studies on both existing 4.5G and 5G technologies and beyond and turn them into final products, and said:

“It is clear that 5G networks, which will revolutionize the world of technology, will create trillions of dollars in economic value and millions of jobs. We are trying to develop all the necessary products in 5G infrastructure, from antenna to backbone network, with local and national resources. “We continue our work as a ministry, mindful of the transformation that will occur with 5G technology and the opportunities it presents.”

Recalling that they established the Telecommunications Technologies Group (HTK) in 2017 to develop the local and national production ecosystem in the electronic communications sector, Oraloglu said that member companies are working on meeting their hardware and software needs on the road to 5G with local and national companies. means. “Comprehensive local and national 5G communications network project”He said it had been developed. Uraloğlu stated that they want to eliminate foreign dependency in electronic communications infrastructure through the project.

Recalling that they have established infrastructure at Istanbul Airport where citizens and international passengers with compatible devices can experience 5G, Oraloglu explained that within the scope of 5G preparations, they have granted trial permits to mobile network operators and local manufacturers, enabling them to prepare technically for 5G.

5G trials are being conducted in 25 places

Oraloglu, among them Including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Edirne and Kocaeli. Noting that the 5G network has been tested in 25 places within the framework of the granted permissions, he said: “3 mobile network operators have been granted permission by BTK to provide 5G service at Istanbul Airport. According to the reports we received from operators and subscribers Average data download speed is 1 Gbps and upload speeds are 90 Mbps. So our internet speed literally flies. Our primary goal is to provide our country with the necessary speed to compete with the world using 5G technology and to ensure transformation using a high percentage of local and national products. He said, “Our country is taking steady steps towards becoming one of the leading economies in the future through the steps it has taken in the field of digitalization.”

Local and national 5G production target

“In this context, we have identified the titles of 5G support calls in 2022 with the contribution of BTK, HGM, mobile operators and companies operating on 5G. As a result of our work, on January 5, 2023, the name “5G Call Program” was named. Support for telecom infrastructure development projects was announced. mobile fifth generation (5G). We have made a call for 5G within 5G. Through this call, we aimed to encourage local and national production through projects that will be given R&D support, to reduce “dependence on abroad for high-tech products and to support research activities.” And development in the field of communications. We planned to provide a total of 200 million liras of support to the connectivity programme. Different subcategories of calls “We have set a maximum limit of 20 million liras for each company applying for more than one address.”

This is why we are here. “We will hold a signing ceremony for the project monitoring cooperation protocol with the Maritime Communications Research Center of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Transportation (UDHAM) and BTK, HGM and GSM operators. “With this project, for the first time in Turkey, local and national products are developed in cooperation with the manufacturer and operator who can Product use and supporting organization. “Work will be carried out in this direction.” He said.
