Former President Donald Trump took to social media on Friday to express outrage, claiming media outlets used artificial intelligence to fake a photo of him on the golf course with a large intestine.
“Fake news used artificial intelligence (AI) to create image above left,” Trump, 77, wrote on True Social. “These are despicable people, but everyone knows it.”
The racy photo is reportedly of the former commander-in-chief mid-swing, with his bulging midsection pressed firmly against the fabric of his shirt.
The image, however, despite being digitally altered, is not the work of artificial intelligence.
According to fact-checking site Snopes, it’s from 2017, and it’s a legitimate photo of professional golfer John Daley — a Trump supporter — with the former president’s head at the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 PGA Championship. Awarded to the winner of the Open Championship.
Trump, who listed his weight at 215 pounds after surrendering to Fulton County authorities last August, included actual photos of himself playing golf on Friday to “show the difference” in his Truth Social post.
