Have you ever recorded video with your smartphone and thought, “Man, I wish this was DSLR quality?” Or, have you ever shot video with a digital camera and thought, “Man, I wish I had the connectivity of my smartphone?”
Well, son, we have news for you!
Oh Crowdfunding campaign for Alice Camera has just launched that promises to turn your iOS or Android smartphone into an AI-powered content creation machine. Let's take a look at this new Alice camera and discover what AI-powers it has, and how it can turn your smartphone into a Micro Four Thirds DSLR-esque camera.
Alice Camera is being introduced.
Developed by a company called Photogram out of the UK, the project aims to bring the phone experience, but with DSLR quality. As you can see in the photos and videos, the camera attaches to the outside of your smartphone so your iOS or Android device can act as a monitor where you can control the shot.
The Alice camera itself will feature a Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens mount and includes a Sony 4/3″ HDR dual native ISO CMOS sensor. The whole thing is made of aluminum and is capable of recording 4K video at 30fps (or 1080p at 60fps), plus it includes some nice recording features like auto exposure, auto white balance, and autofocus controls.
The Alice camera also includes a 3.5mm microphone jack and can record to microSD cards. It charges via USB-C and also houses a 500 mAh battery.
An AI-powered smartphone camera
Still, the big story here might just be the “AI-powered” tag. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon and Google Edge TPU chips as the Alice camera's primary processing unit, the device should be able to run a host of AI tools and features that you won't find in many smartphones or digital cameras. .
For example, all auto-exposure, autofocus, and auto-ISO controls will be AI-powered, and Photogram looks set to further customize the camera's AI features for custom apps or other desired needs. Looking forward to working with developers to build in the future.
Price and availability.
As mentioned in the beginning, Alice Camera was just launched. Indie Gogo with a goal of raising over $25,000 in pre-orders. The base “perk” or purchase option is currently at $762 with a 20% discount already applied, so we'd expect the price to stay around that once it's fully released.
