Amazon Bedrock now has all three versions of Anthropic’s Claude 3 artificial intelligence (AI) model.

Amazon said in a news release Tuesday (April 16) that it makes Bedrock the first and so far only managed service to make all three Cloud 3 models — Opus, Sonnet and Haiku — generally available.

The release added that it “increases the ability for customers of all sizes to rapidly test, build, and deploy Generative.” [AI] applications in their organizations

As PYMNTS wrote last week, Bedrock is part of Amazon’s “three-layer” approach to AI, which was the subject of CEO Andy Jesse’s recent letter to shareholders.

“At the grassroots level, Amazon is providing developers and companies with the basic tools to build their own AI models, called Foundation Models (FMs),” the report said.

The middle layer contains management services, which allow users to use existing foundation models and customize them for specific applications. Bedrock is one such service, which provides a platform for building and scaling generative AI applications through a variety of pre-trained models.

“At the top layer, Amazon is building a range of creative AI applications for its customers and AWS businesses,” PYMNTS wrote. “These applications include AI-powered shopping assistants, improved voice assistants like Alexa, and new advertising solutions.”

Cloud 3 has been part of Bedrock since last month, when Amazon announced it had invested an additional $2.75 billion in Anthropic, bringing its total investment in the company to $4 billion.

The new investment adds to an initial investment of $1.25 billion that Amazon made in September and fulfills a commitment the company made at that time to invest up to $4 billion, the tech company said in March. .

According to the agreement, Anthropic is using AWS as its primary cloud provider, will use AWS Tranium and Inferentia chips for its future AI models, and will allow AWS customers to bring its foundation models to Bedrock. What is a long-term commitment to providing access to the next generation?

“Generative AI is poised to be the most transformative technology of our time, and we are confident that our strategic collaboration with Anthropic will further enhance our customer experiences, and look forward to what lies ahead,” said Dr. Swamy. Siva Subramanian, vice president of data and AI at Amazon Web Services (AWS), said at the time.
