House Republicans are seeking documents from Google in an effort to learn how the US government was involved in influencing the company’s artificial intelligence program Gemini.
On Saturday, the House Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Alphabet, the parent company of Google and YouTube, insisting that all communications between the feds and Alphabet regarding Gemini be turned over to the committee by March 17.
“In light of new reporting about how Alphabet deliberately biased its AI model, Gemini, by giving it instructions that distorted the results it shared with Americans. . . we write to inform you. are that the committee considers covering material related to this technology,” said the letter from Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, chair of the committee.
Jordan said he was alarmed by internal reports from within the Gemini team that he had followed the Biden White House’s lead that AI should pursue “equity” — a left-wing idea. which argues that black people and other historically marginalized groups should be promoted and identified. White people and other groups that are not historically disadvantaged – regardless of merit.
Google’s Gemini was widely derided after it emerged that the system refused to display images of white people and instead pulled out “diverse” images of the Founding Fathers, the Pope and Vikings.
“Given that Alphabet has in the past censored speech protected by the First Amendment as a result of requests and demands from government agencies, the Committee is concerned about possible First Amendment violations by Alphabet’s Gemini model. have happened,” the letter continued.
Imgesu Cetin, founder of Genie AI, which focuses on data analysis, said wike AI is a serious problem on the technology horizon.
“It says don’t write something racist or sexist, but then you start affecting the truth. George Washington wasn’t a black man. So that’s a really big risk, to manipulate the truth,” he said. told The Post.
