Logitech Signature AI Edition M750 Wireless Mouse Review

With talk of AI being integrated into everything and anything in consumer tech, it's no surprise that Logitech announced a new mouse that tries to harness the power of ChatGPT. And like Athena emerging from the skull of Zeus, the Logitech Signature AI Edition M750 ($49.99) was born: a mouse with one button dedicated to the peripheral maker's new AI prompt-building software, via ChatGPT. is reinforced. Logitech isn't the first to gamble on the AI ​​trend (and certainly won't be the last), but the AI ​​features work surprisingly well, and even if AI isn't your cup of tea, the M750 still A very travel mouse.

Design: Of mice and bots

Logitech's M750 has been on the market for a while in some countries, though it's not yet available in North America. That's probably because it shares many design principles with the Logitech MX Anywhere 3S. The US debut comes with an AI-based update (more on that later in the review).

At 4.3 by 2.4 by 1.5 inches (HWD) and 3.6 ounces, the M750 is about the same size as the MX Anywhere 3S. A rubberized grip wraps around the tiny mouse, while the left and right clickers blend seamlessly with the body of the mouse. In my hand, it felt good, albeit for being too small. Large hands may have trouble dealing with the mouse's low frame.

Two buttons hug the left side of the mouse, easily accessible for right-handed users, while the middle button, featured on the tail, automatically opens Logitech's AI Prompt Builder software. . A rubberized scroll wheel sits right above it, but Logitech hasn't carried over the excellent MagSpeed ​​electromagnetic scroll wheel found on the MX Anywhere 3S and MX Master 3S. This is a devastating blow to desktop doom scrollers.

Flipping the M750 over reveals four PFTE feet, sensors, a power switch, and Logitech's Easy Switch button, which bounces the mouse's Bluetooth connection between three devices. Logitech declined to specify the exact model of sensor used in this mouse, but we confirmed that the resolution is at 4,000 dots per inch (dpi). There's also a battery door on the bottom that hides both the AA battery (included) and the Logitech Bolt USB receiver.

Although the M750 isn't available in a wired option, you won't be replacing batteries anytime soon. Over a Bluetooth connection, Logitech promises about 20 months of battery life. Using the Logi Bolt USB receiver, you can expect up to 24 months.

It's all standard fare from Logitech, and to the company's credit, it knows how to make mice and keyboards look and feel good. A lot of mice can easily be thrown in your bag, but the wealth of connectivity options make the M750 an ideal choice for people on the go. Couple that with full Mac compatibility, and the mouse becomes a pretty versatile tool.

Software: Lots of custom options

So what's so special about this mouse? Well, it's in the name. Referring to the sketch comedy show PortlandiaLogitech “put a bird on it”—it took a largely standard mouse and slapped an AI button on it, and lo and behold, it worked perfectly out of the box.

We mentioned above that the Logitech M750 has a button dedicated to Logitech's new AI Prompt Builder, but the left and right buttons on the left side of the mouse are also focused on productivity. The left button automatically activates dictation mode – an accessible feature that allows you to type by speaking into the computer's microphone – while the right button automatically opens a window with ChatGPT.

After pressing the button and signing in, I was surprised to find that it was the full-fat version of ChatGPT 3.5 and not a custom version built specifically for the mouse. This means it has the same limitations as the web version. It can't be used offline, it can't pull any information more recent than January 2022, and it has a tendency to make things up. You can sign up for a Chat GPT Plus account (at a cost of $20 per month) and experiment with the more advanced GPT-4, which gives users access to additional tools like Dall-E.

But the 3.5 will suffice for most, and it excels on short, written tasks. When asked for a seven-day workout plan, ChatGPT generated an entire week's worth of activities for me in seconds. I tried to ask him to tell me who my colleague Tony Hoffman was, and he summed up his experience at PCMag. Disappointingly, he had no idea who I was. ChatGPT-4, trained on data as recent as December 2023, knew who I was. It's worth the extra $20 if you ask me.

These prompts can be created in Logitech's new AI Prompt Builder. After pressing the Tell AI Prompt Builder button, a new window appears where you can build a “recipe” with specific parameters. In a preset example, I asked ChatGPT to write an email about a sale on Pi, setting the tone to “multiple” and the complexity to “simple”. After pressing submit, ChatGPT gets to work, generating an email on the fly. If I had to complain, I would say that the gestures are somewhat limited. You can edit the length, complexity, and even word count, but if you're looking for something specific, you might be better off tweeting the prompt in ChatGPT itself.

For now, Logitech's AI Prompt Builder only understands English. Also, it's only compatible with ChatGPT, although Logitech has plans to connect it to other chatbots. The good news is that a long list of Logitech devices, including Logitech Wave Keys, Logitech Lift, and a surprising number of older Logitech devices will now support AI Prompt Builder. In just a few clicks, I was able to map both ChatGPT and AI Prompt Builder to my MX Master 3S, and it works exactly as it does on the M750.

Prompt Builder isn't Logitech's first foray into integrating AI into its products. Logitech Smart Actions, while mostly an excellent macro builder, was designed to automate repetitive tasks as well as open applications with the touch of a button, including ChatGPT. . This feature returns here if you're willing to take the time to create and edit workflows, making the mouse a productivity powerhouse.

All can be customized to your preference in Logitech's downloadable software Logi Options+. If you're not a fan of AI enhancements, you're free to disable them, as well as assign different functions to your mouse depending on the application you're using. For example, I can set specific mouse functions that only work when I'm using Google Chrome, and another set of functions when using Zoom.

Overall, Logi Options+ is one of the easiest peripheral customization apps I've used. Its clean and clear UI makes it easy to figure out what I can do. Admittedly, I didn't think I'd like the AI ​​functionality, and while there's a certain part of me that thinks it's overkill, I can't help but be impressed by what's being shown here. I can be affected. After just a few days of use, it became an ideal companion for commuting back and forth to the office, switching between my work laptop, my home computer, and any other device lying around. .

However, if you're interested in Logitech's AI shortcuts, you probably already have a Logitech device that's compatible, so it won't be worth buying a new M750 just to get access.

Even without the AI ​​features, the M750 is a pretty solid all-around daily driver, and makes a good travel mouse. And at $50, it's quite the value. Our favorite general-use productivity mouse is still the Logitech MX Master 3S, but if you're looking for a small, everyday mouse with some serious add-ons, Logitech's latest might be for you.
