Apple today announced major updates to its operating systems during the WWDC 2024 opening keynote. Both iOS 18 and macOS 15 come with many new features, including improvements to iMessage, more Continuity features, and Apple Intelligence. However, not all these features are currently available for beta users.
Read on as we detail which features announced at WWDC 2024 are not yet available to beta users.
Apple Intelligence
Yes, Apple Intelligence was one of the highlights of this year's WWDC. Apple finally introduced its own set of AI-based tools. With Apple Intelligence, users can review and summarize text, compose responses to emails, filter notifications, create images and emojis, edit photos, and more. And can do a lot more.
However, those who were excited to try Apple Intelligence are now disappointed. That's because none of the features Apple revealed during today's event are available in iOS 18 beta 1 or macOS 15 beta 1. And it will take even longer for Apple to launch its own AI features.
Apple Intelligence will be released “in beta this fall,” the company says. In other words, there's a very good chance we won't be able to get our hands on the new AI features before the new iPhones launch in September. It is worth noting that the AI features require an A17 Pro or later for iPhone or M1 or later for iPad and Mac.
RCS
Apple confirmed last year that it would add support for RCS (Rich Communication Services) to the iPhone with a future software update. Now we know that RCS support is indeed coming with iOS 18.
With RCS, iPhone users can send rich messages with audio and large media files to Android users. Although RCS messages will still have green bubbles, the Messages app will display the label “Text Message – RCS” in the conversation.
But at least for now, there is no sign of RCS support in iOS 18 beta 1.
Mail app redesigned.
After years, Apple is finally redesigning the Mail app. Now, the app will automatically filter emails and categorize them into categories like transactions, updates and promotions. There is also a category for emails that are considered important. The new version of Mail also makes it easier to search and view emails from the same sender, along with receipts and newsletters.
But the bad news is that — you guessed it — the new Mail app isn't available in iOS 18 beta 1. Apple says the app will be introduced in the future with the iOS 18 update “later this year.”
Safari highlights
Apple is using machine learning to power a new Safari feature called Highlights, which is able to identify relevant information such as an address or a link to a song on a webpage and show it to you. Safari Reader has also been redesigned to summarize articles.
Although the new version of Safari is already included with iOS 18 beta 1 and macOS 15 beta 1, the new AI features are currently not available.
iPhone mirroring
Both MacOS 15 and iOS 18 introduce iPhone Mirroring, a new way for your Mac to communicate with your iPhone. This feature lets you view and control your iPhone screen from your computer without touching your phone. You can also drag files between macOS and a mirrored iPhone.
At least in beta 1, this feature is not available.
Panoramic Mac Virtual Display
Apple Vision Pro is getting its first major software update with visionOS 2, and one of the new features is Panoramic Mac Virtual Display — which basically lets users see their Mac screen as a giant ultrawide display. Provides the option of Apple says it's equivalent to having two 4K screens side by side.
Even if you install the visionOS 2 beta on your Vision Pro, Apple says Panoramic Mac Virtual Display won't be available with a future update until later this year.
